Welcome! Here are some important things you need to successfully start your cello lessons:
1. A 3-ring notebook or folder for music or information you’ll receive in lessons
2. An appropriately-size chair or stool without arms. When seated at the front of the chair, the students’s feet directly below his or her knees, the knees should be slightly below the hips. Please bring your chair to the first few lessons and to any performances not at the Music School building. These excellent adjustable chairs and stools by Adjustrite are recommended. The stool is appropriate for ages 4-6 unless the student is very small. The standard chair for ages 7-10, tall chair for high school ages. This stool comes highly recommended, but it isn’t cheap.
3. An endpin strap. I recommend this one.
4. Nurtured By Love by Shinichi Suzuki.
5. Suzuki Cello School Book 1 (revised or international edition) Download the sound files here
6. Wee Cello
7. Playing from the Heart
8. The Amazing Slow Downer App
9. A notebook for the parent to take notes in during lessons, plus a pencil.
10. A smart phone WITH FREE MEMORY or other recording device to record lessons and a bag to keep all your music, notebooks and other odds and ends.
